2025 Design BFA Showcase Branding: Typography

Typography for the BFA exhibition, an event to celebrate dedication and the power of creation.

Duration: 4 weeks

Completed using Procreate and Adobe Illustrator

This is student work completed at Cornish College of the Arts

This is an excerpt from a collaborative project titled Gathering, which was to create a branding proposal for the 2025 Design BFA Exhibition at Cornish College of the Arts. My piece of this project was to select typographic elements for the show, however I took it a step beyond choosing typefaces and elected to create these elements by hand. The visual identity of the type highlights the essence of the BFA Design showcase: elegance, professionalism, and a touch of fantasy.

The 2025 graduating design class from Cornish College of the Arts features work from students graduating with degrees including Design, Illustration, Animation, Game Art, and User Experience Design. The illustrated type that I created for the show’s promotional materials highlights the strong presence of Illustration in the creative works of many if not all of the members of the graduating class.

As students of Cornish College of the Arts, much of our work is heavily informed by an awareness and understanding of design history, of the work that preceded us. The research to drive the type design for this project spanned design eras included Bauhaus, the Dada movement, and the American Moderns. Max Bill’s typographic work in particular was highly influential in the creation of these assets.

Research + Inspiration

Every single letter produced in this series is completely unique and hand-drawn. There are two different versions of the wordmark for each of the five majors, adapted into a linear and a stacked format to increase versatility.

Along with the typographic assets, I selected supplementary typefaces and developed branding assets to compliment them. These included designs to be used on items such as t-shirts and posters, which are mocked-up to create an immersive experience.

The typefaces selected are Bely (for headings) and Josefin Sans (for body copy), both of which were used in the design of this website.

The illustrations of hands are credited to Moriah Pechacek.
